I go for walks often, sometimes darting down an animal trail just to satisfy my curiosity. Usually I regret it the moment I get a face full of spider web. Even with that it’s still usually pretty tranquil.
That is until I happened up two deer blinds set up on parts of the trail opposite sides of the property. They looked old and unused, and the deer feeders that sat in front of them were in disarray. Even with them looking abandoned I couldn’t help but feel as if I was being watched. Just to make sure I opened the doors to them both. One looked like it had been used as a kids hide-out at some point and in the other I found a very surprised racoon.
Even with their dilapidation it felt dangerous to be standing in front of it, as if I might be the intended quarry. I had to wonder sometimes if it wasn’t better to be a blind deer, unwittingly enjoying the last few sweet kernels of corn.
